Blayne's Surgery

Things have gone really well today. Thank you for all of the prayers. Blayne had a bad dream last night and ended up in our bed. He stayed asleep this morning as did Bryan, while John and I got ready to leave. We woke both boys up and headed out. We dropped Bryan off at our friend, Beth's, house and headed to the surgery center. We were on time and relaxed. Blayne wanted to listen to the music from "A Baby Changes Everything" we have to turn it up really loudly for him to hear it, so we had it blaring on the way there! We got there and we were surprised at the crowd...we had to scope the room for a seat! Blayne was excited to see his friend, Sam, from school. Sam was having surgery today too. The boys both seemed very relaxed about surgery. When Blayne went back from pre-op, he was very calm. He took the oral sedative without a problem and sat back and watched a show. He didn't get goofy like Savannah did when she had that medicine, he just relaxed. When they wheeled him away, I had that pit in my stomach...that is such a strange feeling. While talking to Sam's mom, I learned that her maiden name is STONECIPHER. She was so excited to meet us, as she knew that there were "Stoneciphers" at the school and she wondered who we were! It really helped the time to pass. When we got called back after surgery, Dr. Bryan told us that Blayne did well and that he is a tough kid. He had an abscess on his tonsil. He performed a "Quincy" to remove it...not sure what that means, but he lost some blood but not as much as is normally lost with the "Quincy". He took his time and slowly removed the tonsil. Puss squirted out when he punctured the abscess....yuck! He said that the adenoids didn't look all that big and that there was a lot of fluid in the ears that he removed. We were sent back to the waiting room, and then called back pretty quickly to recovery. The nurse said that Blayne had done beautifully. He has already taken his oral pain medicine and he was comfortable. There were crying kids everywhere, and Blayne was so peaceful. We stood by his bed and talked to him. John said that it made him emotional to see him....it was a surreal feeling. Anyway, Blayne began to rouse, he did well, had his IV removed, talked to us and enjoyed a Popsicle. The nurse came in pretty quickly and told us that he could leave when we were comfortable. Blayne was ready to go, so we started to get him dressed and he go sick and vomited. I really thought I might pass out. I haven't had that feeling since I tore my ACL in my knee....not a good feeling. I took some deep breaths and was fine. We cleaned him up, loaded him up and headed home. He had done well with eating, drinking and taking his medicine without complaint. He is a sweet little boy. I am so thankful that the surgery went so well, and that he came out okay and was not agitated. Continue to pray for us in the days and weeks ahead as he continues to heal. He has eaten: LOTS of Jello, pudding, ice-cream, Popsicles, push-ups, and yogurt. I plan to keep him on a soft diet, so pray that I can be creative and encourage him to only eat what he is allowed. Pray that he doesn't get constipated from the pain meds. Pray for John and I as we tend to his needs and the needs of our other children. On a funny note, Blayne asked us to turn the music down because it was too loud in the car....he had us lower the volume on the TV when we got home, and he said we sound LOUD to him!!! Those ear tubes are working. He also asked "What's that noise?" when Bryan was nursing. He had never heard those feeding noises that Bryan makes when eating...he was so surprised. He wanted to call and tell "his girls" who were at John's parents' house! Sweet that he wanted to tell his sisters.
