Bryan's Therapy

So, Bryan is going to be our Golden Child...I had given Reagan that name, but he is trying to one up her, I think. We paid full price for him as we didn't include having another baby when we were filling out our insurance paperwork, because we were DONE, he has had the procedure on his clogged duct and might have to have glasses too! He has also shown signs of muscle weakness for a while. I have been bringing it up to anyone who would listen, relatives in the medical field, friends, pediatricians, and even a friend who is a pediatric occupational therapist. It took some convincing with the pediatrician, but when he saw Bryan folded in half on the exam table at 6 months and ENJOYING it, he agreed that he was a bit floppy! So, we were referred for an evaluation, and sure enough, he qualified for services and began therapy about six weeks ago. He is making great progress and is holding himself up, sitting up and pulling up some. He does not crawl properly, so they have "therapy pants" that he has to wear when he is crawling to help him keep his knees in. We call them "mermaid" pants because they don't allow him to spread his legs. He doesn't like them, but they are helping, and also helping him to strengthen his back muscles that are weak. It is kind of pitiful to see him do his crawling. When he gets tired, he just lays right down flat on the floor. He doesn't like our therapist and looks at her an cries....it is sad. He is starting with stranger anxiety, which is totally appropriate, but I think he also associates her with therapy! Poor girl, has to give you a complex. All of the kids are helping with Bryan's exercises and they cheer him on. He is still very laid back and sweet, sweet, sweet. We say it all the time that we are so thankful that God chose for us to have another baby. We love this baby boy so much and are grateful for the treasure that he is....even if he costs a lot of money!

Bryan's certainly being a little troublemaker, isn't he?! That's the baby of the family for you. . . Did your ped recommend any sort of high protein diet in addition to the therapy? Our twins had the same low (or complete lack of) muscle tone problem, and were "prescribed" a diet of whole milk yogurt (instead of traditional baby food) to help them build muscle. Those flavored BabyYo 4 oz. yogurt cups are very handy, and not too costly for just one child. We ended up buying yogurt by the quart, :) but the 4 oz. ones are so easy to stick in a keep-cold bag when you're out running errands around meal/snack time. Just enjoy these lingering baby days though, floppy muscles or otherwise. Before you know it they're turning THREE!!
