Libby Today

Well, this morning, I talked to Gracie who was fighting back tears, I could tell. She said that Libby was having a bad morning. She had fever and they thought that it was an infection. She told me that a yeast infection would "not be good" and that could be the culprit because of all of the antibiotics that she is on. My heart ached for her. Really, yesterday was so peaceful, and I could hear the strain in her voice, the fear or the unknown and the wonder of what would happen next. I prayed against infection today and against human error, which is probably huge fear for parents up in CCICU, but especially when you are physicians and you KNOW so much. The rest of us are blessed with ignorance! Praise the Lord for good news. I just learned that:

Blessings in the storm are some of the sweetest and I think we have another one today. Libby got her long term IV placed in the left arm today. As an aside, the one good thing about her being on the breathing machine is that they can give her "anesthesia" and she has no discomfort for the procedures. Anyway, in an xray to check the position of the IV, they incidentally noted some increased whitening in the area of the right upper lung. A very astute physician put things together and hypothesized that Libby's neck IV is extravasating (leaking) into the tissue around the IV/in the area of the right upper lung. This can happen when a IV is positioned for a long time. While we don't like that this happened, it seems to be much better than an infection and once they removed the IV, she seems to be more comfortable. The wound question will be addressed tomorrow morning. Thank you for persevering in your prayer support.

Thank you Lord, for giving us Libby for another day and for giving her strength to fight! Thanks for giving Eric and Gracie some good news tonight that there is NOT the infection that they were dreading. May the Lord be glorified in this.
